Using Truvia

Truvia is the perfect sugar substitute for low-carb baking and desserts. It includes a polyol-based bulking agent, so can be used in recipes that require a granulated sugar substitute. It is about 3 times sweeter than sugar, so although it looks similar to sugar, you would need to use a lot less of it. Check your recipe for the exact required amount. If experimenting with recipes, start out with a small amount (about half of what you think you need) and taste, then add more if required.

Is Truvia completely safe on a low-carb diet?

Truvia has zero effective net carbs and will have no effect on your blood sugar. You don't need to include it to your daily carb count.

However, please remember than excessive consumption of any sweetener might increase your carb cravings. As is the case with any other sweetener, it is best to use it as an occasional treat rather than something you have every day. Getting over common addiction to sweet foods and tastes is the ultimate aim of any low-carb diet, so it is best to use Truvia and any other sweetener in moderation.

Please note that in baking, there are certain attributes that unfortunately only sugar has, for example, its ability to caramelise. You will not be able to replicate the same effect with Truvia or any other artificial sweetener.

Does Truvia have an aftertaste?

Unlike many other artificial sweeteners, Truvia does not have an unpleasant chemical aftertaste. When used in desserts or baking products, it is virtually impossible to tell the difference between Truvia and sugar.
